New Blog Design!

I got bored with my design again, so I’m trying out a new one! It’s kinda weird that there’s no pink in it at all!

Since I’ve decided I kinda like this blogger thing, I’m thinking about getting a custom blog design. Who should I use? I’d love to get some suggestions! Thanks!

KC-The Drive and First Night

Finally, here is the start of the vacation posts! I had this post all ready to go, then Blogger lost it! Ugh!

This year, we kept up a tradition that was started on our trip to Memphis & Nashville last year.

Bathroom Pictures!

Not disgusting bathroom pictures, just pictures of us…in the bathrooms…

You may still be wondering why, so here are the pictures from last year that started it all!

No, you aren’t hallucinating. That is a restaurant booth. Inside a bathroom stall. I wish I knew what they were thinking when they decided that this would be a good idea. :)

Unfortunately, this year we didn’t get any super exciting bathroom pictures, but we have had fun going back through all of them and laughing about the fact that we actually took pictures of ourselves in the bathrooms!

Alrighty, here we go!

1st stop-Perry, Oklahoma

2nd stop-1st McDonald’s on the Kansas turnpike

Laughed out loud when I saw this purse. Had to share it with all of you! :) I also saw a super hot cowboy, but couldn’t get any pictures. Sorry :(

Last stop before KC-Emporia, KS

We got to our hotel around 3:00 to find that it was under renovation. The fact that we had to enter through a little side door should’ve been our first clue to run away screaming. We didn’t. We also learned VERY quickly that anything that anyone told us was more of a suggestion, not necessarily the truth. We chose the hotel because it said that we would have free breakfast and a refrigerator and microwave in our room. We didn’t want to have to eat out every meal, so we had planned to make sandwiches or something for lunch and eat breakfast in the hotel. That wasn’t exactly the case. By saying ‘free breakfast’, they actually meant that the teeny tiny yogurt and cereal breakfast was actually $8. Also, you could have a refrigerator and microwave in the room…for $10 EACH!

Now, Momma and I aren’t demanding divas that have to have things a certain way, but we would’ve been a little more prepared if we had known this ahead of time. The hotel’s response? "We have made some changes and just haven’t updated the website. Enjoy your stay!"

After unloading the car, we went downstairs to look at KC maps and to figure out what we were going to do during the daytime. While we were there, we watched two women complain to two managers about the hotel. They said that the leaves that had just blown in the door were disgusting, and the construction materials in the hallways were unacceptable. They didn’t want to even see any signs of renovation while they were there. They hadn’t even been in their rooms yet! They ended up getting moved to another area of the hotel and were given vouchers for free meals, and more than likely ended up getting at least part of their stay free. The whole time I was thinking ‘Who do you think you are? You aren’t celebrities. You aren’t staying in a super, ridiculously fancy hotel. They are doing renovation! COME ON!’ We had construction going on right outside our door and literally had to step over Bob the Builder or Handy Manny nearly every time we went in or out of the room!

Ok, my rant is over now! :) We decided on Cheesecake Factory for dinner! After circling the restaurant about four times and accidentally going in a maintenance parking garage, we found a place to park!

We had AMAZING wild blueberry white chocolate cheesecake! Yummers!

Cheesecake Factory had a nice bathroom! :)

We walked around the Plaza for a bit. It was really pretty out there!

More to come soon!

My Italian Brother

I need to vent for just a moment. I had my first Kansas City post all ready to go, then Blogger LOST IT!! Ugh, I am really really hating Blogger right now. I use Windows Live Writer on my laptop, so I’ll try to post with that tonight.
Anyway, the night before Momma and I left for KC, we had dinner with Colby’s old roommate Stefano. He is from Italy and is in the states for school. His mother and brother were in town for a visit, so we were all able to get together. Stefano has become practically a member of our family! He is adorable and has the cutest accent!

Stefano’s mom doesn’t speak English, so Stefano was having to translate for her all night. Even with the language barrier, we had an awesome time!

So, I Made a Playlist…

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know how much I love music! After seeing several other blogs with playlists, I decided to do one of my own. Now, since yall are the ones reading the blog, I need your opinion!

Fun or Annoying?
I need honesty! If it’s too much, I’ll totally take it off. But I thought it might be a cool way to share music that I’m loving at the moment, aside from my periodic “10 Tracks I’m Loving Now” posts.
What do you think?
Also, vacation posts are coming soon! Most of my pictures are on my Momma’s camera, so as soon as I get them, I’ll get to working on the posts!

Back to Reality…

Hey yall! Vacation is over, so it’s back to the real world. Momma and I got back to Oklahoma yesterday, and she went home today. Fortunately, I took tomorrow off of work, so I have one more day to relax before I have to go back to work.

Vacation was great! I have stories, pictures, and letters to share with you, so look for those over the next few days. I will also start catching up on everyone’s blogs to see what yall have been up to over the last week!

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend, and hope you have a great Monday!

My 100th Post!

100th post

Wow! I seriously cannot believe that this is my 100th post! I started blogging back in January, and I never imagined that blogging would lead where it has. I never imagined “meeting” so many awesome people! I never imagined tweeting with some of these same awesome people! I have had so much fun, and I really appreciate everyone who has followed, commented, emailed, or even just visited my little blog once. Thank you so much!

Ok, now, what you’re REALLY here for! :) I made a video on Sunday afternoon drawing for the winner of my giveaway! It has been soooo hard to keep it a secret, and now I can finally tell you all who won!

Congratulations! Email me today your mailing address, and I will get it mailed out to you tomorrow! My email is ashleyscarnivalride@yahoo.com.

Thank you to everyone who entered! I am already planning more giveaways, so I’ll let you know when the next one comes around!

We Have a Winner!

But…you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out who it is!

This marks my 99th post, so tomorrow morning, I will be posting the video drawing of the giveaway winner! I recorded it yesterday and I am having a very hard time keeping the secret, so I will try to post the video before work in the morning!

Hope you are all having a fantastic Monday!

Favorite Friday-Party Games

Favorite Fridays

This week’s Favorite Friday topic is favorite party games!

Phase 10

Phase 10 is one of my family’s favorite games! We play every year during Thanksgiving week when everyone comes to stay at my great-grandparents’ old house for the week. We sometimes spend hours playing this game!

Nerts

My adoptive family from church introduced me to this game a few years ago. We play this game at parties at their house a lot, and it gets very competitive. We usually end up yelling and shoving each other a bit, but it’s lots of fun!

Apples to Apples

Apples to Apples is a really fun one too!

Check out Jen’s blog for more! Also, my giveaway closes at midnight tomorrow night! If you haven’t entered, click here to see the giveaway items and click here to get entered!

Friday Five Time!

beth_button

This week’s Friday Five is more of Beth’s random questions. It’s Beth’s birthday so be sure to go wish her happy birthday!

1.If you could be on a show (talk show, game show…) which one would you pick?

For a talk show, I would choose Oprah! I have no idea what I would go on her show for, but who wouldn’t love the opportunity to sit on that stage and chat with her! She’s awesome!

JP Morgan Library and Museum For a game show, I would choose Deal or No Deal. I looooooove Deal or No Deal! I would totally lose all of the money, because I probably wouldn’t ever take the deal, but I think it would be really fun!

deal or no deal

2. What was your first job?

I did some babysitting during high school, but I didn’t have a regular, real job until I started college. I worked as a substitute at the preschool at my church. There was always someone gone, so I worked nearly every day. It was fantastic! Makes me sad because some of my first kids are now in 4th grade!

3. What’s one of your guilty pleasures?

I did a list of five of them here, but I’ll highlight one of them now! One of my guilty pleasures is soap operas! I love ‘em! I’ve been watching The Young and The Restless since I was born, thanks to my Momma! It doesn’t get much better than watching Victor Newman destroy one of his enemies! My other favorite was cancelled ten years ago *sniff sniff*, Sunset Beach. I absolutely loved it! I still miss it! I also watch The Bold and The Beautiful on my lunch breaks, and Days of our Lives when I can. Good stuff!

4. Would you ever vacation alone?

I don’t think I could EVER vacation alone. I hate just going on day trips for work alone, so there’s no way I could actually take a vacation on my own. Plus, I’m so directionally challenged that I would get lost and be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

5. Democrat, Republican, or Independent..or maybe even Green Party (whatever that is)?

I am a Republican. Without getting too political, I will say that there are good and bad things about all parties, but I choose to vote based on the issues that I am most passionate about, and the Republican stance on those issues are the closest to my stance.
