It was super sweet!

Thunder Up, Y’all!

Sorry I haven’t been around much this week. Here’s why!
Our OKC Thunder are in the playoffs, and Monday night, we wrapped up our series agains the LA Lakers with a big win! I have to say, the win was extra sweet since it was against the Lakers :)

Be back soon with a “real” blog post!
Also, if I can hit 300 followers this week, there will be a giveaway next week! Tell your friends :)

Boob Tube Babble

Boob Tube Babble
Hey y’all!

With most of the season finales happening this week, today is the final Boob Tube Babble. Neely and I have enjoyed chatting about TV with y’all!

Here are my thoughts on TV these last couple of weeks!

Soooo…The Voice. Y’all know I was rooting for Chris Mann, and Tony Lucca was my second choice. Unfortunately, they placed 4th and 3rd :( But, I was happy for Jermaine. He is a great guy with a great voice, and I’m happy to see him succeed!
I never thought I’d say this, but I’m kinda over Army Wives this season. I feel like not much has happened, and with so many episodes without Claudia Joy, there has not been nearly enough General Holden. I am glad to see that the next season starts in June, but I’m sure that means it will end after that. We shall see!
I sobbed watching Private Practice this week! Watching Amelia go through labor and delivery knowing her baby wasn’t going to live was just horrible.
Ok, so I haven’t watched Grey’s Anatomy since like the second episode of this season. I’m just really over the show. Neely convinced me to watch the finale because she needed me for moral support, so I gave in. It. Was. Awful. I’m not going to rehash the entire episode here because it’s too depressing, but I definitely don’t think I’m going to be watching anymore.

A Temporary Home

Hey y’all!
I normally try to keep things pretty light around here, but I have some things that have been on my mind for a few days, and I just felt like sharing them here.
May is National Foster Care Awareness Month. After spending three years working in the field of foster care and adoption, these things are very close to my heart.
While working in a foster care program, I had the privilege to work with some incredible foster families. These families do one of the most selfless things a family could possibly do. They open their homes to these precious children for a few days, a few months, a few years, or forever. They are truly living out God’s command to care for the fatherless, and it is such an honor to know and to have worked with such amazing families.
I also had the privilege of being a part of the lives of some of these precious children. My favorite days at work were the days I got to go do visits with my kids. I may be a little biased, but my kids were pretty much the cutest kids ever!
I met precious little A when she was just an itty bitty little thing! She was eventually adopted by her incredible foster family, and I was so honored to get to be a part of that wonderful day!
There are over 8,000 children currently in the foster care system in Oklahoma. 8,000 in Oklahoma alone. I don’t know what the nation-wide numbers are, but I’m sure the number is huge. Honestly though, it’s horrible to think about even one child not being able to live with his or her parents.
There is a great need for foster parents in this country. Oklahoma has a shelter where kids go when there are no foster homes available for them, and many times it is over capacity. There is not enough space and not enough beds to accomodate all of the kids. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be in such a scary situation, and then not having a bed to sleep in.
Foster care is something that has always been on my heart and something I hope to do one day. I have so much respect and admiration for the people in my life who are foster parents.
Joyce and Wade are currently fostering three precious little kiddos.
Regina and her husband have fostered several kids. You can read more about their foster care journey on her blog.
If you are in a position to do so, I encourage you to look into becoming a foster family. If you aren’t, there are many other ways you can help these sweet kids.
*Donate clothing, toys, backpacks, or money to a foster care organization. State agencies and private agencies accept all kinds of donations.
*Provide a meal for a foster family. I know from the families I’ve worked with that this is a HUGE blessing!
*Become an alternate caregiver. Did you know that foster families can’t leave their foster child with just anyone? All childcare providers/daycares have to be certified. It’s not a difficult process, and it is a great way to help out these families.
For more information, contact your local department of human services.
One of the biggest reasons I hear for why people choose not to foster children is “I would love them too much to let them go”. Leah, one of my former incredible foster moms, says it best. She posted an article on Facebook about a child who was horribly abused by its parents. She had this to say about the article:
“These babies need safe homes! So many say “I couldn’t let them go, I would care too much about them” …. I promise, I care about them too…. I care so much I can’t sit back while this happens every day.”
If any of you are involved in foster care in some way, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

A Wonderful Surprise!

Hey y’all!
So, the post I had planned for today has been pushed back to tomorrow. When I got home from work last night, I was super exhausted, and I could get the things written down that I wanted to say. Instead, I’m going to talk about the wonderful surprise I got yesterday!
I was working in the back of the shop when Becky came back and told me there was someone there to see me. When I walked out front, Amy and B were there!
They live in the Nashville area, and they were in town visiting family, so they stopped in to surprise me! Their family is a very special family to me, and I loved getting to spend a few minutes with them. I got to see them back in February when I was in Nashville for Blissdom, but I had no idea when I would get to see them again.
B was a little shy at first, but he warmed up really quickly. We played for a little bit, and I’m so thankful Becky had my camera and captured a few fun moments.

What a great way to start the week!

Weekend Update plus a little extra…

Hey y’all!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I feel like so much has happened since the last time I blogged! I know I say this over and over, but I’m REALLY going to try to do better!
First, I have HUGE news! Y’all remember this from week before last, right?
Well, last week, Lori and I got tickets to see Carrie Underwood on her Blown Away tour!! She’s going to be in OKC in October, and we are so excited!! I’ve seen her twice before, but this is Lori’s first time. I know we’re going to have a fabulous time!
Speaking of Lori, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it here, but Lori has a blog too!
She’s super sweet, and y’all should go follow her now, got it?
My little Sweet P has started doing pageants, and at almost seven months old, she is already doing so good! She went to one a couple of weekends ago, and she won Beauty and Outfit of Choice in her division and Mini Grand Supreme overall!
She’s already taking after her Aunt Ashley :)
Moving on…
With it being the week of Mother’s Day, we were sooooooo busy at work! There were several days that I only sat down for maybe 15 minutes the whole day! I didn’t want to wear flip flops or tennis shoes or anything like that, so I’ve been wearing some wedge sandals a lot lately. They are super cute, but after being on my feet all day, they start hurting pretty bad. One day last week when we were closing the store, I had to just kick them off in the middle of the floor. Jo thought it was funny, so she snapped a picture :)
I got a call on Friday from my boss Ryan, and he told me that GARTH BROOKS had just called the Tulsa shop to see if the jewelry he ordered for TRISHA YEARWOOD was ready so he could pick it up!
I was just overcome with extreme excitement and extreme jealousy all at the same time! I seriously considered leaving my girls alone and heading to Tulsa! It’s good that I didn’t, because if I had been there when he came it, I probably would’ve embarrassed myself! He’s my favorite, what can I say?
Pinkitzel, an adorable cupcake shop a few doors down from us, had cupcakes decorated extra special on Saturday for Mother’s Day, so I had to go get some for me and my girls :)
I had a chocolate truffle one, and it was pretty much amazing!
I had originally planned to go home after work on Saturday for Mother’s Day, but because my car is needing some work and because most of my family tried to talk me out of it, I decided to not make the quick trip home. I was really sad to not get to spend the day with my momma, but I got to have a great Sunday anyway! I went to church and spent the rest of the day with Joyce and her family. We were also really excited because the parents of Little Miss and Little Bit, two of Joyce and Wade’s foster babies, came to church and lunch with us! It was great to get to share the day with them, and the girls were so proud to have their momma and daddy at church with them!
Alrighty, just a couple of things before I go. Tomorrow, I’ve got kind of a serious post planned. I don’t get super serious on y’all very often, but there’s something that’s been on my mind the last couple of weeks that I want to share.
Also, this week is the last week of Boob Tube Babble!

Boob Tube Babble
With season finales happening this week, we wanted to give y’all one more chance to link up! We hope that a lot of you will join in and share your TV thoughts! We do have a fun link-up planned to take BTB’s place, so we’ll share that with y’all in a few weeks!

Have a great Monday!

Tuesday Randoms

Hey y’all!
Not a lot happening around here today, so I’ve just got a little bit of randomness for ya today!
First, I did a guest post yesterday for Emily yesterday! I shared pictures from my senior prom, and I’d love for y’all to check it out!
My sweet friend Lori came to visit me at the shop yesterday!
I just love getting to share The Vintage Pearl with my friends! So much fun!
Last night was the last performance night of The Voice, and Chris Mann was amazing! I really really hope that he wins.
What can I say? I kinda like this picture :)
My precious friend Carrie is starting a little girls’ clothing line!
We met on Twitter before Blissdom and got to meet in person there! She is the cutest, and the dresses and bows she makes are just wonderful! For more info and to help her get her line going, go here!
That’s all for today! Hope y’all have a great Tuesday!

Weekend Update

Hey y’all!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

I had a pretty fabulous one! Friday night after work, I went out for Mexican food with my girls from the shop!

Becky, Lauren, and Jo are just so much fun to work with! I have been so blessed to have a wonderful team of girls, and I love that we can have a great time together away from work.

I just love these girls!
Saturday we worked all day. It was our last day for Mother’s Day orders, and we were pretty busy. During a slow time in the afternoon, I got a surprise visit from some of my family!
My aunt Davene, uncle Boyd, and his sister Sue came to see me! Davene and Boyd were in town for a wedding, so they stoppedy by after. I think it had been about three years since I’ve seen them, so it was such a wonderful surprise! Totally made my week!
After work, I went out to Joyce and Wade’s to play with the babies and watch the OKC Thunder game.
The Thunder beat the Dallas Mavs (sorry Neels!) to win the first round of the play-offs. It was a close and exciting game!
Yesterday I went to early and evening service at church. They announced our new pulpit minister yesterday morning, and we ended the day with our high school senior service. It was a great day!
We’re getting ready for a busy week at The Vintage Pearl this week! Hope y’all have a great one!

Boob Tube Babble

Boob Tube Babble
It’s Friday!

Today, I’m working all day, and then going out to dinner with my girls from work! I just adore these sweet girls, and I’m thankful to have a great team working with me every day!

Now, time for the TV talk! Remember, this link-up is ending in just a few weeks, so link up while you still can!

I actually sat through an entire episode of Army Wives that did not show General Holden one time. I’ve realized there is just no reason to watch if he’s not going to be on there. Waste of my time…
The final four was decided this week. I predicted three of the four!
Chris Mann is the finalist for Team Christina! He’s been a favorite of mine from the beginning because of this:
Yeah, that happened :)
I think Chris has a fantastic voice, but I’m really having a hard time with him being on Christina’s team. I want him to win, but I don’t want her to win. Unfortunately, I can’t have one without the other.
Tony Lucca is the finalist for Team Adam! I loved him back in his Mickey Mouse Club days, and I’d really love to see him win if Chris doesnt!
Not a huge fan of Blake or Cee Lo’s contestants, so I definitely hope that one of my boys can win the whole thing!
Super sad that my favorite Skylar was eliminated this week :(
I think she’s awesome and will definitely have a big career ahead of her.
What did you watch this week? Link up with Neely and me!

Blown Away

Hey y’all!

Yesterday was a ridiculously exciting day for me because Carrie Underwood’s new CD was released!

My friend Lori is a really big country music fan too, so I tweeted her Monday night to see if she wanted to go get the CD together before work! We made plans to meet and got up really early yesterday morning to meet at Walmart. Lori got there first and headed straight for the CD section but was told THEY DIDN’T HAVE IT! Seriously? This is a 24 hour Walmart in Oklahoma and you don’t have Carrie Underwood’s CD. I still don’t get it…
Anyway, we headed to Target and were so happy to see this!
We quickly grabbed our CDs and headed to Ihop for breakfast. It was so much fun to hang out and catch up on what we’ve been doing the last few months. We talked a lot about life, country music, and blogging!
I’ve only been able to listen to the CD a little bit, but I’m loving it so far! My favorites (today!) are Good Girl, Blown Away, and Wine After Whiskey. Good stuff!
Have a great Wednesday!
